MY STORY
I am a mum of 2 but before having children I worked in Science (I have a BSc (hons) in Zoology and a MSC in the Marine Biology field) and I loved to travel and experience different cultures. When I had my first child I became passionate about breastfeeding - after my birth didn't go to plan, it was breastfeeding that restored me and I was so grateful for the support I received at my local breastfeeding group. I can relate to just how innately, and sometimes unexpectedly, important breastfeeding can be to some mums/parents. I have always been driven to help people and volunteer (I have volunteered for the WWF and for the Big Read project to name a few), so before I knew it I was volunteering at my local breastfeeding group, and my love of learning motivated me to become a Peer Supporter then Breastfeeding Counsellor and now an IBCLC. I think one of my most defining feature is that I am a bit of a geek!
My experience
I first became a Peer Supporter in 2012 and have been supporting mothers and parents ever since. I have and continue to support families in a variety of ways – via the national breastfeeding helpline, running my local support group, volunteering on my local hospital maternity wards and providing local telephone/video/ online support. I am also a qualified Baby Massage Instructor, a Babywearing Peer Supporter and Mindful Breastfeeding Practitioner. I have enjoyed taking courses in early years attachment, child psychology, counselling, baby sleep, the infant microbiome and birth.
My hopes
I love supporting mums and parents in their own personal journey, I feel privileged to do so and am always amazed at the strength and passion of the parents I support. All I wish is for each family to reach their feeding goals, be at peace with their journey and have their uniqueness respected. I will use language that reflects you and your family situation. My aim is always to listen and be mother / parent-centred so you feel able to bond and nurture your child. I want to create an experience that meets your needs, gives you time to explore your feelings and encourages the loving bond between parent and child. Parenthood is a journey that is simultaneously joyful and difficult, and I would just like to try to help you a little on your way :) My hope is that you come away feeling nourished and confident from my consultation/s.
